What a Start to Spring!

Well here I am lying on my bed with my three dogs studying for my Grooming Certification instead of grooming your dogs. Sometimes Snow Days are fun but when you are as busy as we are right now I need to be at work! I do apologize to everyone who had appointments today but due to road conditions I just didn't want my staff out driving in this mess!

It's been a while since my last post and I promise to try and post more often, ideally daily is my goal.

Lulu and I went to Atlanta and competed in the Worlds largest grooming competition! We had a blast, althought we didn't place we got a wonderful critque and were told we only needed to 'tweak' a few things and we would have placed. We met so many people and conversed and got tips from some of the top industry leaders. I brought back new products and new knowledge to use at the salon.

Lulu and I have also been asked by the National Association of Creative Pet Groomers to write a product review for their next magazine issue. As well as Lulu will be featured in the magazine using the product. We will keep you posted on this.

Doggie Stylz also got to groom it's very first Irish Wolfhound this month! She was a spactacular canine! Her name is Kylie and she was just beautiful and so mild mannered. I just love when we get to experience different breeds.

Grooming is Maintenance NOT a Make Over!

While I enjoy a good 'before and after' transformation, the truth is grooming is meant to be form of coat maintenance not a complete transformation every time.

I am often asked "How long until fluffy needs to be groomed again?" My answer depending on style of coat is usually 4-6 weeks or 6-8 weeks. Some people take my advice and they pre book for my suggested time period. Some pre book for 12 weeks (which is too long) and then some say "Okay I will check my schedule and call you." I usually end up seeing those people 6 months down the road with a severely matted dog.

People sometimes have the mind set that groomers suggest a short period of time between grooming to make more money off them. This however is not true. Most salons are steady all year round so if you don't book in that 4-8 week time period chances are that slot will be filled by someone else anyway. We suggest this because it is what is healthy for your dog's skin and coat. Also it takes less time to groom your dog when he/she is kept on a regular schedule, therefore saving us time and you money. Extra matting and extra hair takes more time to groom and extra charges must apply! When you bring in a dog with 3 months growth we have to 'find' a dog in all that hair and develop a flattering style instead of just maintaining the one we gave you on your last visit.

So next time you leave your Groomer's place why not pre book your next appointment for the suggested time period... think to yourself... would you wait 2 or 3 months between washing your hair? :)

St. Patrick's Day

Hey everyone! We are looking for some dogs to try out some St. Paddy's Day creative designs on. The dogs we are looking for would be white (or have large patches of white), have been recently groomed (within the last 6-8 weeks), well behaved during grooming. We would need to be allowed to use animal safe hair dye on your pooch!

This is at no cost to you, so step up and have a little fun! Your dog will be the talk of your Paddy's Day party!

Puppy Love

Well, February is shaping up to be busy busy! We had a few puppies in for first grooms this week! One of them was little Phenoix! What a sweet boy and so well behaved. Bentley the Goldendoodle was also in for a visit, and Riley Thistle also stopped in for an freshen up, just to name a few! You can see pictures of these three pups and more on our photo page.

Time is winding down, Lulu and I have 3 weeks until we fly to Atlanta, Georgia for the worlds largest grooming competition. Lulu doesn't seem to be nervous at all! We both got our head shots done by the wonderful Phonse King (Kings Photography) on Thursday evening. What a blast and Phonse did a wonderful job... Lulu was quite the little ham, hogging the camera.

Well the dogs and I are off to watch the Grammy Awards! Have an awesome Valentines Day, full of Puppy Love!
